Retrieval

V0.1 - 22-06-2020

Retrieval system

The mission is not over after landing. One does not safely land a payload to leave it in the ocean. This is the task for the retrieval teams. The localisation of the capsule can be divided into long and short-range systems. The long-range systems include GPS and radio triangulation. The short-range systems can include any visual or audio signal. One should think of flashing lights, fluorescent dye, sound, and bright parachutes. The schematic below shows the various retrieval and localisation systems used onboard mercury.
